Children are expected to arrive no later than 9:00 am unless otherwise arranged. Should you arrive after class starts, check your child in at the office. Our office staff will locate your child’s class and escort them there. A teacher aide will greet your child, check their attendance sheet, assist them with putting their things in the cubby, getting caught up with the lesson; then notify the lunchroom to prepare another meal.
Children are to arrive neatly groomed and dressed in clean play clothes appropriate for daily activities. Children need to exercise in fresh air and sunshine. We plan outdoor play every day so please dress them adequately. When bringing your child to school, please note:

  • The State of Virginia requires your complete signature when you drop off and pick up your child. PLEASE, NEVER drop your child at the entrance!
  • The Sign In/Out record will be kept in our front office in view of security cameras.
  • Children are not permitted to sign themselves in and out.
  • Children must be picked up by 6:30 pm to avoid additional fees.
  • Students will not generally leave to attend another facility. If your child needs to leave for instruction at another facility, then a pre-authorized staff person/driver may sign your child out.

VISITATIONS: We have an “open door” policy. Parents have free access at all times to all areas used by children. The only limitations to this policy are contained in Virginia State Law (VAC 388-150-440) which states:

  1. During facility operating hours or while the child is in care, only the licensee, employee, volunteer, or an authorized representative of a governmental agency, or parent shall have unsupervised or regular access to the child in care.
  2. We will allow the Parent/guardian of the child in care unsupervised access only to their child.

MISSING CHILD PREVENTION:

A class roster and daily schedule will be posted in the office and with each classroom teacher. This will provide for immediate location of children during any emergency or parent visit.

Children will go as scheduled for bathroom breaks. If an emergency trip is necessary, a teacher aide will escort the child and assist in proper bathroom procedures.

During playground supervision teachers must keep a roster at hand to monitor the accurate listing of children at play and to assess interactive behavior during activities. Though conversations are permitted with others while supervising, teachers must maintain visible account of each child.

AMBER ALERT PROCEDURES:

Should a child ever become lost or missing, immediate search procedures will go into effect.

  1. An immediate lock-down will take place for each classroom to secure all children and assure the child has not wandered into another classroom, cafeteria, bathroom, or playground. Video recordings would be reviewed immediately of last sighting of child in the classroom and all the exits.
  2. Upon exhausting all efforts to locate a child for no longer than 15 minutes, the director in charge will initiate a 911 call for assistance with exact time, location and description of child when last seen. Parents will be alerted for additional verification and involvement in decisions to be made.
  3. Digital photos of each child may be quickly reproduced from their records file. Local businesses will be alerted to watch for or report suspicious sightings involving description of the child.

Every precaution has been set in place to assure that our children will be secure while at Harbour Tugboats. Our staff is trained to make every conscious effort to provide individual attention to our students. Our name says everything: A Harbour is a safe, protected place where people can be sheltered.

RELEASE OF CHILDREN:

Children will absolutely NOT be released to anyone except those authorized to pick up the child on the enrollment form. In alliance with public school policy, children may only be released from the office. Identification is required of those authorized who are unfamiliar to staff. . In the event you wish another adult to pick up child, it would require that you give written permission in advance or a phone call to verify.
